Forbo Lab day

Amazing to be invited to the Forbo lab day. Great opportunity to see how furniture linoleum is used in products by eg Hay, DockFour, Linoplus+, Stadesk and Trinity. It's also nice to be able to exchange experiences with these other companies about the possibilities of the material. For example, thanks to the cardboard backing, it is a lot more flexible than Marmoleum, for floors. The challenge for bags is the breaking point when you fold the material.
The highlight was making your own Furniture Linoleum. In their lab we were able to mix different colors of base material. This base is made from linseed oil, pine resin, wood flour, limestone and pigment. You now understand in my search for biodegradable alternatives why this material is so interesting!
The different materials go through a press. The amount of times you do this will have an affect on the pattern that develops on the patch.
The patch then goes through another press where it is pressed on cardboard. This completes it a as materal to start creating with!
The first pouch is already in the making here in the studio.

Te gek om uitgenodigd te worden voor de Forbo labdag. Mooie kans om te zien hoe Furniture Linoleum toegepast wordt bij producten van bijvoorbeeld Hay, DockFour, Linoplus+, Stadesk en Trinity. Ook fijn om even met deze andere bedrijven te kunnen uitwisselen wat de mogelijkheden van het materiaal zijn. Het is door de kartonnen backing een stuk buigzamer dan Marmoleum voor vloeren bijvoorbeeld. Uitdaging voor tassen is nog wel het breekpunt als je het materiaal dubbel vouwt.
Hoogtepunt was het zelf maken van Funiture Linoleum. In hun lab konden we verschillende kleuren basismateriaal mengen. Deze basis is gemaakt van lijnzaadolie, pijnboomhars, houtmeel, kalksteen en pigment. Je begrijpt nu wel in mijn zoektocht naar biologisch afbreekbare alternatieven waarom dit interssant is!
De verschillende materialen gaan door een soort pers. Hoe vaak je dit doet heeft invloed op het patroon dat onstaat op de lap.
De lap gaat vervolgend door een andere pers waar het op karton gedrukt wordt. Dit maak het een bruikbaar geheel om mee te maken!
Het eerste etui is al in de maak hier in de studio.
Een mooie toevoeging aan de materialenbank!
