Hello everyone!
I was looking forward to giving you this update! A very big project is finished and I would like to share with you the result!
You can expect insights out of our project towards a compostable bag. Information about a latest tailor made model and some inspiration since sharing is caring!
I would like to start with a special request, to be found better online it would help me if you would like to leave a review in google: Google Maps
Thanks!
Enjoy the read, hope you like it!
Insights – Hardware that feeds the soil
A bag is a very personal belonging. It can really create a bond with the you and be an expression of yourself. As it is such a personal belonging, you should not throw it away when you are done with it. You should be able to burry it and give it back to the soil. Macnas has these believes. I want to design bags that are designed to your likings and are compostable at the end. Gabriel helped me out the last couple of months by focusing on the hardware of the bag. Researching and experimenting with alternative materials.
I proudly present his graduation work. Hardware that feeds the soil.
The hardware has a recognizable Macnas style, did you see the M’s from Macnas and the winks ;-)? They are easy to use, strong and if you bury the material it will decompose and feed the soil.
Next step? Making a collection of bags with Macnas hardware. What color would you prefer? Black, Pink, Yellow, Blue or White? Let me know!
Information – Take five, the proces
Mathijs had an idea and was looking for someone who could help him to make it reality. It was such a special project, I would like to share his story.
He is a soprano saxophone player, and loves to bring his instrument where ever he goes. Especially when travelling abroad. Since the instrument is so precious to him, he would love to keep it with him in the plane as carry on luggage. Normal cases are too big, so he made a prototype for a tailor made case that wraps around the instrument. He wondered, after looking for 4 years, if I could help him with this.
I thought this was an amazing challenge and our journey started. The paper prototype he made was a great start to create a pattern for a prototype. I tried out wet moulding for the oddly shaped pockets to give space for the buttons of the saxophone in the tightly fitted bag. We choose veg tan leather and matching hardware. After trying out the prototype in real life we learned the bag needed an extra zipper, some reinforcement, and some size adjustments of the pockets. Also the pattern needed some adjustments. Mathijs his mathematical skills came in handy and a huge aesthesiometer (passer) did the trick.
Then the final bag was made. A tricky proces, with multiple layers to sew with furry sheep skin on the inside and small circular corners. As a personal note I engraved a favourite piece of music of Mathijs on the bag.
It is my most difficult and finest work so far and it was thrilling to share the end product with Mathijs. His reaction was absolutely priceless.
"By working together in this way I feel that it has really become my dream bag. Well done from us ;-)
But most of all it was a lot of fun, and on a deeper level this also gives me something, the confidence that creative dreams can become reality. Glad you did that for this bag."
Do you have any creative dreams that I can help you with? Let me know!
Inspiration – to listen and experience
I would like to share the band of two cousins I have been enjoying massively lately. The Blaze
Seeing them live at Down the Rabbit Hole was a high light of the festival. Enjoy the summer vibes with these tunes.
