Insights - Experiments with Leap from Denmark

Recently, Nikki and I had the opportunity to test a groundbreaking material called Leap, crafted by Beyond Leather in Denmark. Leap is an eco-friendly plant-based leather alternative made from upcycled apple waste. We explored various artisan techniques, from stitching to gluing and marking, and we were impressed.

Leap shows promise as a vegan leather alternative, and we see its potential. While it's currently partially derived from fossil fuels for durability, Beyond Leather is actively working to make it fully bio-based in the future. Which would make it a compostable option. Stay tuned for more details, and check out our Instagram for a reel of our screen printing experiments with Leap. If you're interested in a bag using Leap, let us know!

We really enjoyed filling an excel full of findings based on our experience, learning more about alternativ materials and how to work with them. Would love to do more of these testing projects of other materials.

Check Instagram for a reel of testing screen printing on Leap.
Let me know if you are interested in a bag using Leap!

Have you ever wanted to create your own bag? We're thrilled to announce a unique opportunity to join us in the Macnas studio for a bag-making course! Over four sessions, you'll learn the art of bag crafting, from using tools to working with materials and bringing your bag idea to life.

Here's a sneak peek at what to expect::

Get acquainted with the basics and learn about the tools .
2. Sketch and pattern:
Begin designing your dream bag. You can use one of our Macnas patterns or create your own unique design.

Test your bag's size and construction by creating a prototype before cutting and preparing your chosen materials.

Put it all together and leave with your very own handmade bag. If you need more time, don't worry; we offer the option of booking an extra lesson.
